Finding time to write with a full-time job: Five tips to get words on the page

I knew I wanted to be a writer at a young age. I remember a friend borrowing me a book and after reading it I just knew that I also wanted to be an author. Fast forward to now and I still have that dream but also, like so many other people, I have bills to pay. Writing often starts as a second career which is exactly what it is for me. I work the standard 9–5 job(or 8am until 4pm in my case) and dream of at least working part-time one day so I can focus on my writing. However for now here are some ways I’m fitting in my writing which will hopefully help any other aspiring authors:

  1. Utilising weekends

It can be easy to simply rest and relax on your standard two days off from work each week but I am making sure I use my weekends wisely. I’m up early anyway on a Saturday for my new habit of going for a weekend run so I make sure I keep the motivation going and do some writing when I’m home. I’m trying to find the balance of not working all weekend whilst still getting a decent amount done. For example this weekend I have written two articles and worked on adding a few points to my story outline. I’m doing enough to make me feel good without exhausting myself. At the end of the day if you work all week you deserve a break and don’t want to burn yourself out but if you’re like me you’ll still…
