My Favourite Day Over the Holidays Isn’t Christmas Day

Shout out to Boxing Day

Maybe I like to be different? Perhaps Christmas is too hyped up each year but I’ve never really been a fan.

Well maybe I’m being dramatic, I liked Christmas as a child but the older I’ve got the less I like this time of year. It feels like you are forced to be happy even when you don’t feel like it.

Don’t even get me started on the New Year New Me posts that will soon be doing the rounds. Any day where you feel everyone else is having a great time makes me feel uncomfortable.

Then there’s Boxing Day. It has no expectations, it’s just a random day living its best life. You can queue up at 5am to go shopping if you really want or you can spend the day in bed eating left overs and watching films. Who’s going to know? Or care what you do. I like to choose the latter.

This is my favourite day over Christmas. I get to relax, do what I want without having any expectations. I appreciate the day more after working in retail years ago in my first job. It was the most pointless work day and I resented everyone who came into the shop. Now it’s my day where I don’t shop, work or rush around after anyone else.

If that isn’t the best kind of day then I don’t know what is!
