My ex-workplace is struggling to replace me — maybe working from home is the future
My old workplace refused to let me stay remote, I loved working from home so I quit. They accepted my resignation without hesitation — after nearly 3 years of working hard, being praised for my skills and working across different teams I expected at least an offer of compromise.
That offer never came.
I wasn’t upset as I wanted a fresh start but I had expected them to try and change my mind. However, since leaving I have found out that more members of staff have also now left for work-from-home roles. It seems to be a new way of working for many. If you have had the opportunity to work from home and you like it there can be a feeling of never going back.
For me it was non-negotiable. I would rather leave and take my chances freelancing than go back to an environment that doesn’t suit me.
I feel like everyone’s priorities have shifted somewhat, it might not be about where you work but it’s hard not to be living through these strange pandemic times without it influencing how you think and changing what is now important to you.
