Turns Out You Will Have Regrets Either Way

The what ifs remain even if you follow your dreams

My first office job was in healthcare. I worked there for 5 years and was relatively happy. The pay was low but the friends I had there were amazing — more like a family.

Eventually I knew I had to leave, I was offered a promotion to deputy manager and suddenly my whole future was paved ahead of me. I could see myself working in the same place for 20 years or even until retirement and it scared the hell out of me.

This was only ever meant to be a stop gap until I figured my life out, now it was becoming a career. I worked hard but that’s just my nature but I never intended for it to be my life.

My decision to turn down a promotion and not long after leave the job entirely was met with a mixture of confusion and praise. People thought I was brave for trying to follow my dream but also told me that they could never leave without another job to go to.

I’d love to say I stepped out of that job and figured my whole life out but I’m still working on it. But I just knew I was on the wrong path and if I was ever to make it to my ‘dream life’ I couldn’t keep living a life I had fallen into.

I did the classic thing of applying for any job because I needed money.
