Writing on a Weekend

Should you really write every day?

It’s Sunday — the day of rest. Well at least it is meant to be.

As part of my December writing challenge I am writing every day. So far so good, however, now it is my first Sunday doing this challenge and I am ready for a rest!

There are so many things I’d rather be doing — sitting on the couch with a cup of tea and a book being one of them. Sleeping being another!

I blame past me for not setting the challenge to weekdays only. I really didn’t think this through!

A lot of writing advice teaches you to write daily but I’m starting to see a flaw in this plan.

For one, writing is both a hobby and a job but everyone needs a break from any activity.

Today especially, my writing feels forced. I have been working on a couple of drafts for a while but they don’t feel ready and I don’t want to publish something just because I have to.

This made me wonder whether it is good to write every day.

Sure, people write in jobs such as journalists, authors and bloggers but I feel like every writer has at least one day off.

Maybe one thing I will learn from this challenge is to schedule writing or have specific writing days.
